Dr. Laura Bayés-García graduated in Chemistry at the University of Barcelona (2006). She also graduated in Food Science and Technology at the same university (2008), from which she won the Extraordinary Degree Award. In 2009, she got the Master Degree in Crystallography and Crystallization (Ph.D. Programme) at the Menendez Pelayo International University. On 2013, she graduated her Ph.D. thesis on the Polymorphism and Solid State Miscibility of Triacylglycerols and its Application to Food Authentication, which was co-supervised by Prof. Miquel Àngel Cuevas-Diarte and Dr. Teresa Calvet Pallàs and carried out at the Department of Crystallography, Mineralogy and Mineral Deposits, where she has been working on crystallography research since 2002. For her PhD, she enjoyed a FPU (Formación de Profesorado Universitario) scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Education of the Spanish Government. This PhD thesis was located in the setting of the Consolider-Ingenio Program 'La Factoría Cristalográfica'. She has performed several stays abroad, including the Laboratory of Food Biophysics of the Hiroshima University, under the guidance of Prof. Kiyotaka Sato and Prof. Satoru Ueno, who are worldwide recognized in the lipids crystallography area. During this period, she carried out several stays in the synchrotron radiation facility Photon Factory (PF) at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) in Tsukuba (Japan), where she performed many SAXD and WAXD macro- and micro-beam experiments. For that, she attended several training courses concerning radiological protection and the effects of radiation in biological tissues and had to pass several examinations. Her scientific activity is devoted to the Polymorphism and Solid State Miscibility of organic compounds, such as carboxylic acids and triacylglycerols, although she also worked on microencapsulated materials for energy storage. Nowadays, she is a researcher in the lipids field, more concretely in the rising edible fats and oils area. She published several scientific papers on these topics in high-level international journals, and she also published one book chapter. She is a referee of Polymer Bulletin, Chemical Engineering Journal, Applied Polymer Science, Solar Energy Materials & Solar Cells, Chemical Communications, and Science of Advanced Materials Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research. She has participated in several research projects (MAT from the Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, XaRMAE from the Generalitat de Catalunya, La UB Divulga from FECYT, Grup Consolidat Cristal¿lografia from the Generalitat de Catalunya,...). She tutored one master course and worked as teaching assistant in Thermodynamics and Crystallography (2009-2013) at the University of Barcelona. She was lecturer in several national and international conferences, and organizer in some national crystallographic activities for high-school students.
