He worked as assistant professor in the American University of Beirut (Lebanon, Middle East) where he taught undergraduate geology and petroleum geology courses. In Lebanon, Dr. Sanjuan developed two research projects focused on the study of microfossils and petrophysical properties of Cretaceous (Mount Lebanon) and Neogene (Bekaa Valley) continental rocks.
He has authored 27 peer-reviewed scientific articles in peer review journals (e.g. Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology; Global and Planetary Change; Cretaceous Research), and he has participated in 18 national and international congresses.
Dr. Sanjuan currently works as a lecturer professor. He is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in his areas of specialty (Paleontology and Paleobotany). His research focuses on six going on projects related to fossil plant taxonomy (charophytes), non-marine biostratigraphy, facies analysis, and paleoecology:
- Early Cretaceous Clavatoracean biogeography in the Tethyan Realm.
- Early Cretaceous (Barremian) of Mount Lebanon (Lebanon).
- Paleogene (Eocene-Oligocene) of SW Utah (North America).
- Paleogene (Eocene-Oligocene) of Zaysan and Kolpakov basins (Kazakhstan).
