Albert Cirera, Barcelona 1974. Associate Professor at University of Barcelona, Department of Engineering. Coordinator of the Doctorate in Nanoscience. Member of the IN2UB, the UB Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Institute.

Graduated in Physics at the University of Barcelona in 1996. He received his PhD in 2000 from the University of Barcelona (advisor: Prof. Albert Cornet), with the thesis about sensing properties of nano-SnO2, awarded with the extraordinary prize of the Universitat de Barcelona.

The teaching activity involves courses of Physical Electronics, Electronic Circuits and Semiconductor Physics at Physics, Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering studies, at BS, MS and doctorate level.

His scientific career started with the topic of gas sensors. In an initial stage he work in the growth of nanostructures of metal oxides and its doping for the enhancement of sensibility and selectivity. This work allowed the fundamental study of mater/mater interaction and the understanding of the charge transport phenomena related. The applicability of such work allowed starting an emergent group early in 2005. Later, in 2010 the team started with the development of sensors and other devices by printed electronics. We currently produce memristors, transistors, fotodetectors, gas sensors and supercapacitors by technologies such as inkjet, electrospray, or printing. The materials used are metal oxides, graphene and 2D materials and polymers.

He has published more than 100 papers in international journals, with an h factor h=30 and more than 2500 citations, in journals like Advanced Materials, Applied Physics Letters, Chemistry of Materials, Catalysis Today, Journal of Applied Physics, Nanotechnology, Nanoscale, Sensors and Actuators B or IEEE Sensor Journal. 4 book chapters, about 200 congress presentations and the participation in 10 European research projects.

The research activity is complemented by activity in industrial research. During these years I have managed more than 10 industrial projects, 6 patents arise and I founded 2 spin-off.

Current Scientific interests includes:

- Printed Electronics (TFT, memristors, hybrid, flexible, transparent)

- Interactions of devices at nanoscale

- Electronic and bioelectronic applications of printed devices

This work has been recognized by the Research Intensification Program of the Universitat de Barcelona (2008-2011). I received the 'Antoni Caparrós 2008' award from the University of Barcelona and Fundació Bosch i Gimpera for the activity in industrial research. Our spin off Electronic Nanosystems www.e-nanos.com has received the Solvay award from CIDEM/COPCA (Generalitat de Catalunya) in 2008. I received ICREA-Academia Award in 2010 and the International Association of Advanced Materials medal.
