Professora lectora
Grup de Recerca: Mineralogia Aplicada, Geoquímica i Hidrogeologia - MAGH
I am currently a Serra Húnter Fellow at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and a Senior Researcher at MAiMA Research Group. My research interests are focused on the use of isotopic tools to assess the fate of contaminants in groundwater and soils, with a strong focus on lab and field studies to characterize the fate of contaminants, and natural and induced attenuation processes.
My academic career, with a strong focus on research and knowledge transfer and a clear international character, is divided into 5 stages:
-Predoctoral stage (2004-2010), IDAEA-CSIC. My research focused on denitrification by oxidation of pyrite and its potential use as a bioremediation strategy for groundwater. I graduated from the UB' Earth Science Ph.D. program in 2010 (Excellent Cum Laude)
-First postdoctoral stage, MAiMA-UB (2011-2014). Intense research activity, focused on the induced attenuation of agricultural (nitrates) and industrial pollutants (volatile organic compounds) using in situ techniques, and studying their efficiency with isotopic tools. I started supervising a PhD Thesis (defended in 2018)
-Second postdoctoral stage, CHYN, Université de Neuchâtel (Switzerland) (2014-2017). In addition to coordinating and actively participating in research activities, I carried out the scientific management and coordination of the work team of a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, focused on the degradation of organic micropollutants
-Senior researcher stage, MAiMA-UB (since 2017). In addition to an intense research activity, I have acquired more responsibilities for project management and preparation of proposals. I am currently supervising a PhD student
-In November 2019, I started a new research line in MAiMA-UB, focused on demonstrating the applicability of multi-isotopic techniques to assess the fate of pesticides in the environment. I led a Marie Curie project (2019-2021), and I am currently supervising a PhD student in this topic
This research activity has resulted in a high scientific productivity, which in 2021 is ranked at the UB level in the first tertil in both outputs and fundraising. I have published 25 articles in SCI journals, most of them (23) in journals that are in the Q1 (16 in the first decile), average IF: 5.186. I have published 3 articles in other peer-reviewed journals, 7 chapters of books, and 90 contributions to national and international conferences. I have participated in 24 competitive research projects (funded by the EU, the Spanish government, the Catalan government, etc.).
Transfer of knowledge. I have participated in 38 R&D&I contracts with private companies and administration for the transfer of knowledge. I have taught 9 courses and workshops to companies and administration. MAiMA obtained the TECNIO accreditation in 2018, granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya-ACCIÓ to research groups with an intense technology and knowledge transfer. Besides being coordinator of R&D&I projects, I actively participate in promotion and commercial actions.
Experience in management of research and R&D&I projects; member of MAiMA scientific-technical commission; supervision of undergraduate, master and doctoral students, postdocs and laboratory technicians; member of the scientific or organizing committee of congresses and workshops; reviewer of international journals.
Teaching experience. Serra Húnter Fellow since 2022. I have participated in several BSc. and MSc. courses and I have co-supervised or I am currently co-supervising 3 PhD Theses, 4 MSc. Theses and 4 BSc. Final Projects at the UB, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the University of Neuchâtel. During two academic seasons (2017-2019), I was 'Professora Associada' (a non-tenured part-time position) at the UB. I have the Spanish ANECA and Catalan AQU accreditations for Assistant Professor and Associate Professor. I also have the I3 certification from the Ministry of Universities.
