Short bio. Sergio Villanueva Baselga is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Information and Media at the University of Barcelona (Spain). He has a double background as a communication and media researcher and a biomedical researcher. In addition, he is the researcher coordinator of the Barcelona-based NGO StopSIDA, one of the leading Spanish associations in the fight against HIV/AIDS. For that reason, much of this research is performed under a transdisciplinary approach and has published a wide range of journals in very different disciplines, from Humanities, to Social Science and Experimental Sciences. His researcher focuses into the intersection between language, media and collective identities formation. In this regard, his work has mainly evolved in three different research lines: the study of health identities and their articulation through media representations; the study of HIV and other STI-related stigma and its construction in media, and the study of the representation and uses of the past in the configuration of collective identities. He has also developed research into gender and LGTBIQ+ studies and in the field of science communication, especially during his postdoctoral researcher phase. He has published more than 20 articles in journals, several book chapters and one edited monograph in international high-ranked publishers. He has participated in more than 20 research projects as researcher, and he has been Principal Investigator of several reasearch projects at regional, national and european level. He has supervised two already completed PhD thesis, and he is currently supervising 3 PhD thesis. He has been visiting researcher at Rostock Univeristy (2009), Aristotole University of Thessaloniki (2013), University Charles III in Madrid (2015), Univeristy of Chicago (2019), University of Exeter (2020) and Roskilde University (2022). Currently, he is the Rector's Delegate for the CHARM-EU Alliance, an alliance of 9 European Universities funded under the European Universities Initiative of the European Commission, which mission is to boost the excellence dimension of higher education, research and innovation, while promoting gender equality, inclusiveness, and equity, allowing for seamless and ambitious transnational cooperation between higher education institutions in Europe, and inspiring the transformation of higher education.
