JOAQUIN ANTONIO PROENZA FERNANDEZ

Member of the Research Group: 'Recursos Minerales: Yacimientos, Aplicaciones y Sostenibilidad', classified by the Agencia de Gestión de Ayudas Universitarias y de Investigación de la Generalitat de Catalunya within the category Grupos Consolidados (coordinator: Joan Carles Melgarejo i Draper). He is also a researcher at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Tecnología de la Universidad de Barcelona (IN2UB). His research focused mainly on the petrological, geochemical and metallogenic study of mafic-ultramafic rocks (Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Angola, Morocco, Italy, Bulgaria, and New Caledonia). His current lines of research include: i) the study of metallogenic processes on the supergene enrichment of Co-Ni and critical metals (PGE, REE, Sc) in nickeliferous laterites and karst bauxites; ii) the petrological, geochemical and metallogenic study of oceanic ultramafic complexes tectonically emplaced on convergent margin plates; and iii) the origin of exotic mineral associations (including diamonds) in ophiolites. The results of these studies were published in >100 articles in JCR journals (>50 in Q1), and were also presented at >200 international congresses. He has led and collaborated on numerous research projects, being principal investigator (PI) for 5 projects financed by the 'Plan Nacional' (I+D+i). Moreover, Dr. J.A. Proenza he has supervised 8 PhD students. He has also been invited to several plenary conferences at national and international congresses. Nowadays, he is member of the Editorial Committee of the JCR journals 'European Journal of Mineralogy' and 'Boletín de la Sociedad Mexicana de Geología'. He had previously taken part of other positions: part of the Editorial Committee of 'Geologica Acta' (2005-2010, included in the JCR) and of 'Macla' (2007-2010, from the Sociedad Española de Mineralogía); adjunct to coordinator in the Earth Sciences area of the Agencia Nacional de Evaluación y Prospectiva (ANEP, Spain), from 2013 until 2017; invited editor for special volumes of JCR journals 'Ore Geology Reviews' in 2017 (journal listed second on Mining and Mineral Processing category, and third on Geology category), 'Geologica Acta' (2011), and 'Journal of South American Earth Sciences' (2009); and member of the organizing committee of national and international congresses.
