She has a degree in Politics Sciences and Sociology and a PhD, from the University of Barcelona in the Doctoral Program in Philosophy, Ethics and Politics; She has a degree in Nursing with the specialty of Midwife.
Full University Professor in the Department of Public Health, Mental Health and Perinatal at the University of Barcelona. She is also a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, of the same University, in the Doctorate in Citizenship and Human Rights.
She is Coordinator of the PhD Program in 'Nursing and Health' and a member of the Academic Committee of the 'PhD Program in Citizenship and Human Rights' of the University of Barcelona. She is a member of the Quality Commission and the Management Committee of the Doctoral School of the same University. Academic Secretary of the ADHUC-Theory, Gender, Sexuality Research Center of the University of Barcelona and member of the UNESCO Chair 'Women, Diversity and Cultures'.
Her research experience has been linked to women's sexual and reproductive health care from an ethical and gendered perspective and always with a vision of health as a social phenomenon. The results of her research work have been published in journals and books in the field of health and human and social Sciences and she has been recognized by the CNEAI and the AQU with a positive evaluation of her research activity (2 six-year period). She received the Bioethics Research Award from the Victor Grifols i Lucas Foundation in the 2010 edition for her PhD Thesis: 'Women and Procreation: Ethics of Healthcare Practice and the Care Relationship in pregnancy and childbirth'.
She has led several competitive research projects; she is currently the Principal researcher of the Projects 'Vulnerability in Women's Philosophical Thought. Contributions to the debate on present emergencies' (MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033) and 'Giving birth in times of the COVID-19 pandemic: Ethical implications of maternity health care' (Victor Grifols i Lucas Foundation) and she is a researcher at the international project: 'CA18211 - Perinatal Mental Health and Birth-Related Trauma: Maximizing best practice and optimal outcomes'. Director of the MUSAS Journal (Research Magazine on Women, Health and Society) (University of Barcelona).
Josefina Goberna-Tricas is a Midwife, Graduate in Political Science and Sociology and PhD in Philosophy, Ethics and Politics. Her research experience has been linked to women's health care from an ethical and gender perspective. This research activity has been recognized by the Spanish and Catalan University Agencies (CNEAI and AQU) with a positive evaluation (3 periods: 18 years). She has led research projects funded by the same University as well as by the Catalan Women's Institute, the Spanish Women's Institute, the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and CaixaBank Foundation. The research projects she has led have focused on the bioethical aspects of the health relationship, the humanization of care and later on the concept of obstetric violence. As a result of this last research, it is worth highlighting the book 'The concept of obstetric violence and the current debate on care at childbirth' coordinated by her with Professor Margarita Boladeras. This last inquiry has been further directed towards the concepts of vulnerability in contrast with empowerment and autonomy of women. After the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic, all these concepts must be contextualized in the new scenario.
She has participated as an expert in the consultation phase organized by the Ministry of Equality, in the preparation of guides and documents by the Ethics Committee of Catalonia and by the Clinical Ethics Committee of the Costa del Sol, in addition to participating and be interviewed in different media.
She has been coordinator of the Research Group 'Group of Studies in Women, Health and Ethics of the Healthcare Relationship' recognized by the Generalitat of Catalonia (SGR 156). Now she is member of the Research Group on Creation and Thinking of Women (2017 SGR 588). In 2010 she was awarded the Research in Bioethics Prize by the Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation. She has published one hundred articles, in addition to several book chapters and the coordination of two monographs. She has 799 citations in google Scholar (595 since 2016), an h-index of 15 (14 since 2016) and h10-index of 24 (21 since 2016). She has supervised 12 PhD theses.
She has been evaluator of Spanish Health Technology Projects in 2007 and 2008 Calls (Health Institute Carlos III, Ministry of Science, and Innovation) as well as of COST international projects in 2017 Calls. She has participated in the research project 'Building Intrapartum Research Through Health - an interdisciplinary whole system approach to understanding and contextualizing physiological labour and birth (BIRTH)' (COST 2014-2018, Ref.IS1405) and currently she is participating in the research project 'Perinatal Mental Health and Birth-Related Trauma: Maximizing best practice and optimal outcomes' (COST 2019-2023, Ref. CA18211)
She directs the Journal 'MUSAS: Revista de Investigación en Mujer, Salud y Sociedad' (ISSN:2385-7005) and is an external reviewer of other Journals, such as Enfermería Clínica, Midwifery and BMJ Open
Being Tenure University Lecturer at the Department of Public Health, Mental Health and Perinatal Nursing of the University of Barcelona (Spain), she is also a teacher in the PhD Program in Citizenship and Human Rights of the Philosophy College of the same University. She is secretary of ADHUC¿Research Centre in Theory, Gender & Sexualityand research member of the Catedra Unesco 'Women, development and cultures'.. She has been coordinator of the PhD in Nursing Sciences (2012- 2014) Chair of the Nursing Doctorate Commission (2014-2018) and currently, until 2018, she is coordinator of the PhD in Nursing & Health and member of the Management Committee and in the Quality commision of the Doctorate School at the University of Barcelona.
