Tenure-eligible lecturer professor from the Serra Húnter Programme (2019) and member of the GRC Marine Geosciences at the Dept. of Earth and Ocean's Dynamics of the Faculty of Earth Sciences (UB). Manager of the CORELAB laboratory for the non-destructive analyses of geological materials (2009).
My main research topic focusses on the study of marine sediment sequences for the reconstruction of past oceanographic and environmental conditions (Paleoceanography), and also for the study of continental margin development and stability, geohazards, and human induced contaminants dispersion into the sea (Marine Geology).
I obtained my PhD Thesis by the University of Barcelona (2012) entitled "Rapid climate variability in the Western Mediterranean Basin: the sedimentological record". During my scientific career, I have investigated past surface and deep water ventilation conditions in the western Mediterranean region related to climate transitions occurring during the last glacial cycle and the Holocene period. Especially, I have focused on investigating transference mechanisms of the climate variability signal from global to regional scale, mainly related to deep-water formation in the Gulf of Lion continental margin and surface conditions in the Western Mediterranean Basin.
I performed short abroad research stays at IFREMER (Best, France - 2004), IODP core repository (Bremen, Germany - 2004) and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University (New York, USA - 2014).
Participated actively in the setting up and managed the CORELAB laboratory, a research facility of the University of Barcelona with a XRF core scanner (Avaatech), a Multi-sensor core logger (MSCL's, Geotek) and a micro-CT system, giving open service to research and private contracts. I obtained a contract of technician for research facilities of the Spanish government (2012-2015, MICINN).
I have co-authored 24 peer-reviewed scientific articles in peer review journals, with more than 120 contributions to international conferences and workshops. I have participated in 24 national and international research projects and contracts. My work has been cited 1076 times resulting in an impact factor H of 16 (source: googlescholar).
I have supervised 3 Bachelor (BSc) and 6 Master (MSc) theses, and at present I am supervising the PhD Thesis of Andrea Baza, focussed on the study of the sedimentary record of a mine tailing deposit in the submerged area of Portmán Bay, SE Spain.
