In 2012, he received his PhD in Earth Sciences with honors (suma cum-laude) by the University of Barcelona with the thesis entitled 'Salt tectonics in the Parentis Basin (Bay of Biscay): Origin and kinematics of salt structures in a hyperextended margin affected by subsequent contractional deformation'. During the PhD., he benefited from training stays at the Institute Français du Pétrole, Bureau of Economic Geology and the Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille 1. Between 2013-2014, he had a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Fault Dynamics Research Group (Royal Holloway University of London), where he helped further develop the modelling laboratories to include new experimental apparatus for extension, inversion and salt tectonics. This fellowship was founded by the STAR Petroleum Industry Consortium that required focused research on field and seismic specific problems. In 2014 he joined the Salt-Sediment Interaction Research Consortium (University of Texas at El Paso) comprising a research team formed by internationally recognized scientists and private consultants working in specific problems related to salt tectonics. Since 2010, he combines his research with heading up the Analogue Modelling Laboratory of the Geomodels Research Institute (UB). He has supervised all the experimental programs since 2012 and implemented innovative 3D analysis techniques. He has given invited keynote talks on analogue modelling of salt tectonics in different oil companies (Shell, Repsol, Winthersall, Total, Serica Energy, etc).

Since 2011 he has been teaching different subjects at the Geology, Geological Engineer, and Marine Sciences degrees, and in the Reservoir Geology & Geophysics and the Geology and Mines Engineering Masters. He has supervised 6 TFG and 20 TFM projects, and he is currently supervising 4 PhDs. He oversees the Educational & Scientific Cooperation Program between the Institute of Geological Sciences - Polish Academy of Sciences and the UB.

His initial work focused on the 2D/3D geometry of fault systems and salt dynamics in salt-bearing extensional basins subsequently inverted and incorporated in fold-&-thrust belts. Based on advanced analogue modelling techniques, field studies and 2D/3D seismic reflection datasets, his current research is related to the salt kinematics in different structural scenarios (rift basins, fold-&-thrust belts, basin inversion, passive margins). Part of his work has been published in different peer-reviewed journals.
