Hired by the University of Barcelona from 1972 to the present day. During these years, I have participated in all three areas of academic activity.
Teaching: I have been responsible for the introduction of two subjects of the Degree in Geology curriculum, 'Geological and Geophysical Prospecting' and 'Hydrogeology' in the courses 1974-75 and 1979-80 respectively. Currently, these two subjects are compulsory at the Degree in Geology. Internationally, I have been a professor and director in several editions of the International School of Applied Geophysics of the Fundazzione Ettore Majorana. I have also taught doctoral courses at the universities of Caliari, Pisa and Padua. In the Ibero-American field I have taught courses and seminars in different universities in Argentina, Bolivia, Panama, Cuba and Brazil, but is relevant the teaching of the Master's Degree 'Sustainable Use of Mineral Resources' at the Universidad San Marcos de Lima (Peru) within the framework of the DESIR network, of the ALPHA program of the EEC. Finally, it highlights the collaboration as a guest professor at the University of East Anglia during the academic year 2016-17. At the same time, I have acted as academic coordinator of two teaching networks with Latin American universities. One funded by AECID with the participation of universities from Bolivia, Argentina and Panama, and the other, funded by the OAS under the PIMA programme, with the participation of universities from Argentina, Cuba and Bolivia.
Research: In this field I have actively participated in numerous scientific projects of competitive calls, acting in most cases as lead researcher. These projects include five European Commission call projects, one CONSOLIDER project, eight projects of the National Scientific Research Plan, two Scientific Affairs Division projects, one EUREKA project, and five AECID projects, among others. I have also coordinated numerous technology transfer projects through the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation. The results of the different research projects have resulted in more than a hundred articles published in scientific journals, with more than one thousand eight hundred citations according to ISI Web of Science. I have also been responsible for providing a significant number of equipment for geological and geophysical exploration.
Management: I have held different positions of university management, highlighting the following: Vice Dean of the Faculty of Geology, Director of the Department of Geochemistry, Petrology and Geology in two terms, Academic Secretary of the Division of Experimental Sciences and Mathematics, Vice-Chancellor of Scientific Policy and Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences.
Other merits: Among other merits, I can highlight my participation in several project evaluation committees in different countries (Switzerland, Italy, Argentina, Portugal and Brazil) and my activity as reviewer and member of the editorial committee of international scientific journals. I have been president of the Near Surface Divison European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers. In the civilian field, I have been awarded with the Bronze Medal of Police Merit for my collaboration with the Scientific Police Division of the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police). I am currently president of the Commission for the Sustainable Use of Water (CUSA) of the Catalan Water Agency of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
