I have developed my professional career at University of Barcelona, linked to the Analytical Chemistry Section of the Faculty of Chemistry. After obtaining my PhD in Chemical Sciences in 1996, my post-doctoral stage at the Environmental Institute of the Joint Research Centre in Ispra (Italy) contributed to my specialisation in the preparation of reference materials for different purposes.
Associate Professor since 2007, my current research interests are focused on the development of analytical methodologies to study speciation of different elements (mainly As, Sb and Hg) in environmental, biological and food matrices. This research is covering both, sample pretreatment methods, and subsequent determination by atomic and molecular mass spectrometry techniques, as well as method validation and preparation of reference materials. My expertise in analytical techniques such as ICP-OES and ICP-MS is also allowing my participation in research works dealing with the implementation and application of analytical methods and technologies to real and complex scenarios affected by the presence of pollutants of different nature.
Since 2011, besides my activity as a teacher and researcher, I am the Director of the Mat Control Laboratory at the Faculty of Chemistry of UB whose activities are the preparation of new reference materials and the organization of proficiency tests for public and private laboratories.
My teaching interests focus, among others, on the widespread of quality management principles among students with many different backgrounds, as a fundamental pillar for their future professional career.
