I have developed my scientific career at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Chemistry. Along my career I have worked in different research fields. My PhD research was focused in the solute-solvent interactions in micellar electrokinetic chromatography, and during the PhD I did a research stage at the Department of Chemistry of the North Carolina State University (USA), where I worked with Prof. Morteza G. Khaledi in the synthesis and characterization of liposomes. Later, in 2005, I did postdoctoral stage at Unilever Food and Health Research Institute (The Netherlands) with Prof. H. G. Janssen, that lasted 14 months. There, I developed methods to characterize cross-links in proteins and their digestion products. In 2006 I started another postdoctoral stage at the Research Centre CID (CSIC) in Barcelona, under a Juan de la Cierva contract. In that second postdoc I worked with Prof. Josep Lluís Torres, and I focused my research in two new fields: determination of phenolic compounds in dietary fibre and the main metabolites under its ingestion, and determination of polyhydroxyalkaloids in legumes and cereals. Since September 2007 I work at the Department of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Barcelona, first as a lecturer, and later (2014) as associate professor. Since then, my research activity has been mainly focused, on the one hand, in the study of chromatographic systems to subrogate biological processes, and on the other hand, in the development of high-throughput analytical methods for the determination of physicochemical properties of drugs related to ADME processes (acidity, lipophilicity, solubility, and dissolution rate). Specifically, my current research interests are to explore the use of biomimetic chromatography to predict the activity of drugs against specific pathological processes, and to design high throughput microfluidic devices that can subrogate biological partition and permeation processes
