PhD. in Sociology and Social Anthropology (University Hull, PhD, 1984); Doctor in Geography and History (University of Barcelona, 1984). Professor of Sociology at the Department of Sociology at the University of Barcelona. She was president of the Research Committee 21 on Urban and Regional Research within the International Sociological Association (1998-2002). She has been a visiting professor at Oxford University, Royal Institute of International Affairs, The European University Institute, University Milano Bicocca. Fulbright Visiting Scholar at University of Illinois Chicago (2016). Has lectured in many European universities, participated in international conference and has published a total of 100 items: books, book chapters, working papers and journal articles.
Her main research interests are: Urban regeneration; Southern European welfare regimes and democracy; Comparative analysis on issues that challenge citizenship, such as unemployment, shortage of social housing and poverty; Social Innovation, Governance and Social Cohesion in European Cities. She has been national coordinator of several European Framework Research projects and recently finished a nationally based project (I+D) on Social innovation and Urban governance in four Spanish cities.
She has worked at the Faculty of Economics since 1984, were she has lectured in courses of General Sociology and Urban Sociology to undergraduates and a variety of Post-graduate and Master courses on themes such as Urban Governance, Citizenship and Migration and Social Innovation. She has also directed many PhD and Master theses.
