Prof. Francesca Peiró (born in Barcelona 1965), received the phD in Physics in 1993 from the University of Barcelona (UB) and she is also Master in Academic Management and University Policies (2011). From 1988 to 1995, she was TEM technician in the Scientifc and Technical Centers of UB (CCITUB), assistant professor at the University Autonomous of Barcelona (UAB) (1994-1995) and became lecturer at UB in 1995. Since 2017 she is Full Professor in the Dept. of Electronics and Biomedical Engineering. She is member of the Steering Committee of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (IN2UB), of the Institute for Professional Developement of the UB (IDP-ICE) and leads the Laboratory of Electron Nanoscopies (LENS) at UB. The main objective of LENS is the development of instrumental methods as well as data treatment for advanced scientific problems in nanomaterials using Transmission Electron Microscopy and related analytical techniques. LENS group pursues challenging objectives in cutting-edge methodologies as the combination of electron tomography (ET), electron beam precession (EP) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) in combination with machine learning and simulation tools for data analysis, applied to nanostructures and devices for electronics, optoelectronics, spintronics and materials for energy.
Prof. Peiró has been PI in Spanish and Catalan projects and has participated in EU actions, with cumulative funds more than 3 M¿. She has published 245 papers in peer review journals, and 12 book chapters. She has presented more than 450 communications in international conferences, with more than 55 invited talks. Prof. Peiró has supervised 14 doctoral thesis, she received three times the UB Incentive Program for the Enhancement of Research Activity Award, and three times the mention as Excellent Teacher from the Academic Council of Physics Degree. Prof. F. Peiró was IP of the UB team of a Spanish Consolider project (IMAGINE 2009-2016), to account for nanomaterials at sub-Angstrom resolution and of two national networks of excellence (2018-2019) and (2020-2021) to foster advanced aberration corrected electron microscopy in Spain. Prof. Peiró is Vice-President of the Spanish Society of Microscopy. Since 2018 she is the Scientific Coordinator of the Barcelona node of the Spanish Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (ICTS) ELECMI devoted to Electron Microscopy for Materials Science.
