Dr. Cristian Fàbrega (Barcelona, 1980), holds a Degree in Physics (2005), a Master in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2010), and a Doctorate in Nanoscience (2011) from Universitat de Barcelona. In 2011 he started his first postdoctoral activity in the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC), where he was hired as a postdoctoral researcher for more than 3 years. During this long post-doctoral period, he was supervisor of Master and PhD students, and two young postdoc researchers. In 2015 he started his second postdoctoral activity at the Department of Electronics of UB and currently holding a Tenure Track position. He has independently supervised more than 50 Master Theses and is now supervising the work of 2 PhD students. His research interests are centred in the development of novel device concepts based on light-matter interaction with better and improved performance, paying special attention to the integration and power consumption. During his career, he personally worked in the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials for light harvesting, hybrid integration and measuring of nanodevices. He is also intensively involved in the fabrication, characterization and integration of functional devices for environmental applications (e.g. gas sensors and solar-to-gas), based on material interfaces and charge separation mechanisms. Currently, his research interest has shifted focus towards the potential of colorimetric methods applied to Air Quality and Safety Food. Since 2010, he has published 40 articles in international, peer-reviewed, journals. Overall, his published work has received more than 1200 citations and an h-factor of 24. Additionally, he has co-authored 1 book chapter and more than 40 contributions to conferences, including 8 invited talk. He has participated in 8 European Projects as work package leader, and in several National Projects. He has also carried out technology transfer activities with the industry, participating in several R&D contracts including 3 of them with one of the most important companies in the energetic sector (Repsol) as main responsible of the research line. The outcomes of these contracts resulted in the co-authorship of 3 International Patents. In that regard, following the patent on colour detection and correction technology (PCT/EP2019/051696), a start-up called Colorsensing S.L. was recently founded and participated by some researchers from our group. As a result of the further development of the patent idea he has been granted with several projects aimed at the development of colorimetric methods and with a clear emphasis towards technology transfer. For example, and related with Safety Food technologies, he has been granted with an Innotec project currently under development about digitalization and traceability of colorimetric test which is the direct outcome of another project about the digitalization of a colorimetric method for drinking water validation (Cupons Innovació). All of them in collaboration with Diesmar S.L., an important distributor company of the HoReCa sector. Also, the colorimetric methods for gas sensor technologies have led to some research projects on colorimetric inks for gas sensor both in indoor and outdoor environments.
