Engineering of Frustration in Artificial Colloidal Ice. We study emergent phenomena in different realizations of a new material that we designed, which we call Artificial Colloidal Ice. This material has the unique characteristic that we can engineer its underlying geometry to observe diverse consequences of it's geometric frustration. So far, we have observed charge transfer between sublattices in the presence of defects, and we have observed the charge-like dynamics of defects. We are working in extending the system to other geometries like the triangular, and on recovering the degenerate behaviour of water ice
Fluctuations and Dynamics of Highly Confined Driven Systems, We explore the behaviour of highly confined colloidal systems under strong out of equilibrium conditions. We use different driving techniques, including gravitational traps, optical tweezers and magnetic colloids. With this project we wish to bridge the gap between many body models of soft condensed matter and rheological properties of complex fluids
